Historian

Robin Croker Poole

A: How long have you been a member of the guild and on the guild board?

R: I have been in the Guild of Charlotte Artists since 2022. This is my first year on the board.

A: What do you do/ have done in your role?

R: I am the historian for the guild. As an art history major and an art curator for a private company, this is the perfect position for me. I love to study the history of what influenced the art of the time and the lives of the artists.

A: Why did you join the guild?

R: Guild of Charlotte Artists is a community of artists who support, lift, and inspire each other.  It is a great community to be a part of and to find other artists who have had similar experiences. Plus being in a guild sounds very Renaissance which feeds my love of history.

A: When and how did you realize that you are an artist?

R: I think I was always an artist. I have always loved art and would draw as a child. I just took a long break and finally figured out that I am happiest creating art and being around art.

A: What is your medium?

R: Oil painting and charcoal are my two favorite media.

A: What is your art about?

R: My art is inspired by nature and the simple things in life.

A: What is your method of producing art work?

R: I draw, then I paint. Then erase and paint over. Then I start again and finally get there

A: Do you have a studio space?

R: I share a small home studio space with my daughter.

A: How much time do you spend creating art?

R: I like to spend some time each day creating art, sometimes it’s just fifteen minutes and sometimes it’s hours.

A: What are some of the things you do to promote your art?

R: Promoting one’s own art is challenging. I use Instagram, guild shows, and the help of  my friends and family to promote my art.

A: What advice would you like to share about the creative process, selling art in Charlotte or anything else?

R: My advice is to get involved in the community itself, join the Guild of Charlotte Artists, get out and meet other artists, take art classes from the local art schools, and be true to yourself and others.
